Our Story
Once upon a time, a young Sri Lankan boy started renting one bed at a time while working a corporate job in 2015.
With the determination to bring the world to his doorsteps, he quit the job and reinvested every penny into upgrading the Victorian-style building.
When the Corona Monster invaded the country in 2020, many were so frightened that they turned foreigners away; greed drove some businesses to jack up the prices for the stranded tourists. The boy stunned the world by doing the opposite – he lowered the prices to cover the basic cost and even lent money to the foreigners who were involuntarily stuck in his beloved country.
Various official Embassies, including the Pakistani and El Salvador Consulate, sent their citizens under the boy’s wing. He toiled 20 hours a day to ensure the safety and comfort of 26 guests during the three-month intense lockdown. His good deed rewarded him with nothing more precious than the encounter with the love of his life on the historic Ella-Kandy blue train.
Little did he know, had she (a world-record long distance skater in the US) reached the station seconds early or seconds late, they never would have met. Together, they rebranded and further developed the hostel with the goal to make every guest feel at home.
Currently, Seconds is also managing villas, hotels, and hostels to ensure that Seconds’ guests will find the same comfort wherever they travel across the island.
